Katie Hawks, LCMT
Joined Progressive Chiropractic in 2015
Katie approaches each person with the belief that the body is born with tremendous self-healing potential, and that healing comes from within. She has learned that no two people are alike. Everyone has their own set of experiences and a unique relationship to their body which affects their self-care and individual health needs. She uses this understanding, her skills as a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, and Yoga Instructor and a positive intention to help patients out of pain, recover from injury, and maintain wellness, and optimal health. Suffering from chronic low back pain and being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, she adopted a holistic approach to her own recovery and incorporated chiropractic treatment, massage therapy, nutrition, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and homeopathy.
She graduated from The Soma Institute in Chicago in 2010 and has completed continuing education in Tui Na, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy, and Stress Management. She completed her Reiki Master certification at Insight Awareness in Homewood, IL. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance, completing her 200 Hour Teacher Training at Reflections Yoga Center. She is a graduate of the 500 Hour Advanced Teacher Training program at Moksha Yoga in Chicago studying under Daren Friesen, Catherine Ashton, Kim Wilcox, Aadil Palkhivala, and Gabrial Halpern.
Alongside the doctors at Progressive Chiropractic Wellness Center, Katie works directly with patients to create and implement customized treatment plans using a wide variety of techniques. She teaches therapeutic exercise including McKenzie Method and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization to decrease pain, accelerate healing, and increase performance. These specialized exercises are designed to improve strength & flexibility, promote spinal & joint stability, and retrain faulty breathing and movement patterns. She also utilizes our other therapeutic physical therapy technologies including: ultrasound, cold laser therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, spinal decompression and traction, and myofascial therapies (Active Release Technique – ART, Trigger Point Therapy, etc.) to help accelerate the rehabilitation process.
As a massage therapist, Katie utilizes conventional treatments including Trigger Point Therapy and Deep Tissue Massage, and incorporates Reiki Energy Healing as it is a gentle and stress-relieving modality. She is also trained in Neuromuscular Therapy, Positional Release Therapy, Myofascial Release, Tui Na, and tends to use a combination of all of these tools to evaluate and treat biomechanical dysfunction to help our patients meet their goals of pain and stress relief, improved performance, optimal health, and wellness.
